Desert Tribe
We are of a desert kind
Born to roam but never find
Promised land or peace of mind
But you know my number
You know my number
It’s still the same
Waiting by a well so dry
Empty as the desert (sky)
Far from other passers by
Living on locusts, living on honey
Living like Cain
Eyes on horizons
That we know we will never reach
Cause we can never leave
Look back to the ancient scribes
(We were there when they wrote our name)
The lord of lonely shepherd tribes
(We’re alone but we are the same)
Forgotten men who lived and died
(Too much time, too much empty space)
And you know my number
You know my number
Bomb Shelter
Bombs go off
Blow our little words to kingdom come
Then when the damage is done
In the wreckage we search for someone
To build it back again
I walked about for many days
In the dust in the haze
I was sure that the worst of it was done
But it was just the first of things to come
And blow my mind again
Walls fall down
Wisdom ain’t easily won
But when the day of reckoning comes
If you’re still by my side we will have won
And made the fight worthwhile
Flags
He rode in on a horse
And shot the bandits dead
“Now peace will surely come,”
All the townsfolk said
He burned some buildings down
Put some new ones up
Some money changed hands
Some people were locked up
Down with the old flag (take that old flag down)
Up with the new flag (change the colors round)
Don’t you realize
We don’t want a flag
Things settled down a while
For 20 years or more
The hero’s hair turned gray
Rich stayed rich, poor stayed poor
When people made a fuss
They were shot or locked away
Til new heroes with new slogans
Rode in and saved the day
If we had a time machine
Where would we go?
There’s nothing new to see
Let’s take a trip to 3023
When they’ve got a flag on Mars
Where people rob and kill and cheat
Down with the old flag (take that old flag down)
Up with the new flag (change the colors round)
Don’t you realize
We don’t want a flag
